The symbol and the name Florence, the city of the flower, takes its name from Iris florentina, a typical flower of the Tuscan countryside possessing numerous properties, on which the city has based its economy since ancient times.
The Iris florentina has a tall stalk and its’ particular and gentle inflorescence is a synonymous of polish, which has also been the leit-motif of Florence’s urban development and design in the space of centuries and it is still present nowadays. Each and every monument, street and church whatever its architectural style and period, reflect the elegant and polish idea of life-style.
More than any other Italian city, Florence is the birthplace of the sublime expression of art. Considering the limited territorial extension, Florence represents a concentration of art and artworks conceived and realized by man within the last centuries.
Even the town planning for Florence as the capital of Italy, a project realized from the beginning of 1865, was ruled by aesthetic discipline reflecting refined elegance even though it cost a detriment to the ancient city walls.
In this period Piazza D’Azeglio was accomplished including the buildings that served as retreats to high government officials and ministers of the State. The Hotel Regency, once one of these elegant retreats, witnesses the philosophy of refined elegance and living.
